Technical difficulties occurred with the 3D backend of our game, which handles the physics and ensures a solid foundation for upcoming and already built-in features in the game.

Some of these are:

  • automated z_layer ordering of 2D sprites (height-system) based on the 3D coordinates of the player
  • more realistic shadows in 2D perspective (e.g. seemingly realistic shadow when jumping off a rock)
  • better way of handling movement under various conditions (in water/air, on ground, ...)
  • reworked system for Keno, no longer "KeyEvents" but using realistic (player controlled movement) for the gliding

but on the downside,

  • new technology, that needed time to incorporate
  • Godot (the engine we use) isn't bugfree, (crashes when you do 'unexpected'/sudden/unforeseen things with it)
  • collision isn't as easy to put in place as it was before (also some engine related issues are involved in this),
    therefore we are using a script to generate most of the map and 'finetune' after this happened, but godot handles 2d-Tile rotation and 3D Rotations in a very "peculiar" way.
    e.g.:
    • 90 degrees rotation means you have to first flip on x axis then tranpose the tile and translate this to the 3D orientation
    • 3D rotation is only in orthogonal directions possible

So you have to convert the 2d to 3d rotation, that is different for each 2d/3d tile.

The new system wasn't introduced until not so long ago and we couldn't keep up with the initial development speed.
We underestimated the time it would take to fully implement and integrate the mentioned system(s).

So that is the reason why we had to cancel our release date, but we will inform you about a new one as soon as possible!

This little culprit is the reason for the delay of our tech demo release. ๐Ÿคจ

It is the 3D collision map on which the movement is based, but we're making great progress!

Keno ๐Ÿฆ… forgot to pick up Elora ๐Ÿ˜…, so I think we have to wait at least till tomorrow with the tech demo release of Wings of Justice.
